Bailey to Milloy: Stop Hurting the Unemployed

September 30, 2009

Queen's Park-Bob Bailey, MPP for Sarnia-Lambton confronted the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, John Milloy today on the delays in processing the Second Careers Program applications that are forcing people out of their home and onto welfare.

"These are people who want to work and want to be retrained but the government cannot get its act together to help Ontarians! No one should be forced onto welfare because of bureaucracy."

This program should be providing constituents on Employment Insurance with a chance to transition to a new career. Ontarians are running into problems when Employment Insurance runs out before their funding for retraining comes through. This inevitably pushes Ontarians into welfare.

"This is a complete disaster for this government. Ontarians who need retraining are lingering in purgatory waiting for their application to be processed. The Liberals need to come clean with the people who are waiting for their applications to be processed and give them clear answers as to when they can be retrained."
