Queen's Park-Bob Bailey, MPP for Sarnia-Lambton, stood up for the people of Ontario when he spoke to Tim Hudak's Opposition Day Motion. The motion moves to have the Public Accounts Committee call the main players, Kramer and Hudson, of the E-Health saga to answer questions about the billion dollar boondoggle.
Yesterday Dalton McGuinty and his Liberals voted against the motion and tried to sweep the eHealth scandal under the rug. This motion would provide transparency, which many Ontarians have been pleading for, and this government clearly refuses to come clean on their scandals.
Dalton McGuinty and the Minister of Health have gone on record to say that an external audit was being conducted by PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Later the Liberals admitted that an audit had not been done and they will rely on the Provincial Auditor's report.
"This Government refuses to live up to the standard they promised Ontarians when they were in Opposition. When Dalton McGuinty was Leader of the Opposition he called for a public inquiry on at least 47 different occasions," said Bailey. "Now he refuses to call any public inquiry at all."
$1 billion of hard-earned taxpayer's money was given away to Liberal-friendly consultants through untendered contracts and sweetheart deals.
"Think if $1 billion had been invested in our front line healthcare workers!" exclaimed Bailey. "Think of the hospitals that could have been built, the equipment that could have been bought and the public health departments that could have used more resources to increase capacity to plan for this pandemic."
"When I saw that people were lined up around the corner waiting for their flu shot I wondered to myself what they would have thought of $1 billion in health care funding being thrown away so carelessly," said Bailey.
