MPP Bob Bailey (Sarnia-Lambton) joins
PC Critic for Revenue, MPP Lisa MacLeod
to hear concerns regarding
McGunity's New Tax
Sarnia, ON - Yesterday, Bob Bailey MPP for Sarnia-Lambton welcomed MPP Lisa MacLeod, the Progressive Conservative Critic for Revenue and Government Accountability to Sarnia. The pair began the morning with CHOK's Sue Storr, answering many questions from call in listeners, in regards to Dalton McGuinty's new tax and the Progressive Conservative Party's position against it.
This HST will take effect on July 1st, 2010. This new tax will on average, increase taxes for Ontario families to approximately $1,100 a year and raise government revenues by an average of $3 billion annually in the first 3 years.
MPPs Bailey and MacLeod spent the afternoon at the Royal Canadian Legion in Sarnia, where Lisa MacLeod explained to those gathered how McGunity's newest tax grab would harm the economic recovery of Ontarians across the province. Her presentation was followed by a question and answer period. The majority of the attendees expressed their concerns about the timing of the new tax and the affect it would have on themselves, their businesses and their families.
MPP Bailey promised to continue voicing the concerns of those present at Queen's Park. He also voiced his concerns with the general direction of the Liberal government.
"Dalton McGunity has blatantly ignored Ontarians preferring to take advice from his consultants rather than to listen to those who elected him," said MPP Bob Bailey. "Today in Dalton McGuinty's Ontario middle class families and seniors are under siege from higher taxes, higher utility bills and higher insurance premiums; and to what end? This Liberal government has increased government spending by 65% over a time period when Ontario's economy has only grown by 5.7%, and McGunity's answer to this is to simply tax Ontarians more. It's clearer than ever that Dalton McGunity has no economic plan."
