"You Made Us a Promise, Now it's Time to Honour It" - Bailey

Queen's Park-Today in the Ontario legislature, Bob Bailey, MPP for Sarnia-Lambton, expressed his discontent with the Minister of Health's lack of action in regards to the Sarnia-Lambton Community Health Study.

"Minister, the [Community Health Study] committee has now secured a promise of $35,000 from the county and another $25,000 from the local Chamber of Commerce. But we have heard nothing from your Ministry," said Bailey.

"Now, after almost two years of waiting your Ministry finally promised me an answer before February 16th. Your ministry has now failed to meet its own deadline."

MPP Bailey also took a moment to praise the local group of health, First Nations, industry, labour and municipal officials who have all joined together to launch the study.

The committee which promises to investigate whether or not industrial pollution is harming the health of Sarnia-Lambton, first submitted a request for funding from the Minister of Health in May 2008. Today, almost two years later, the Ministry has not bothered to respond to their request.

Following MPP Bailey's question this morning the Minister of Health, Deb Matthews, agreed to provide Bailey with an answer "as soon as possible," stopping short of committing to the requested one week deadline.
